LINDA'S CHEESE AND MACARONI
3 cups elbow macaroni
2 to 3 cups grated cheddar cheese
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
3 cups whole milk
water, as needed

TOPPING:

buttered breadcrumbs, for sprinkling
grated cheese, for sprinkling (optional)

Put uncooked macaroni in a saucepan and add milk add just enough water to top to make sure there is at least 3-inches of liquid at the top. Heat to boiling, stirring often (otherwise it will stick when the mixture is at boiling point). Put on lid and turn off heat, stirring often.

Note: Add water to the top if needed to remain moist.

Let stand for 20 to 30 minutes (stir often). Test to see if done, if not done (just firm but fork done) leave for longer.

When macaroni is done add grated cheese and stir. Spread in a long pan and add buttered breadcrumbs crumbs and more cheese (if desired). Add pieces of cooked bacon to the top.

Brown in oven at 350°F for about 20 to 25 minutes.
