This will actually be my first time trying to make this dish. I wanted to know when you are going to brown the hamburger with the onions do we drain the hamburger before adding the tomato sauce?

It's up to you. I like to save a few tablespoons of the hamburger juice after I put it through a gravy strainer to siphon off the good parts.

As kids, aunt would make a dish called Jonny Mazeda... this recipe sounds like it... has anyone ever heard of this dish?

Jennifer, search for Johnny Marzetti - there's a ton of recipes. That's what my aunt called it, and she used bacon. I remember it being on the dry side but it was good.
