1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 lg. eggs
2 c. applesauce
2 c. flour
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. nuts (optional)

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Add applesauce. Add flour, cocoa, soda, salt and cinnamon. Mix well. Pour in greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Sprinkle with sugar, chocolate chips and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Makes 9 x 13 inch cake.
