BETTY'S BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 (16 oz.) can chocolate syrup
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Mix flour, salt and baking powder. Alternate with chocolate syrup. Add vanilla and mix well. Grease and flour cake pan (sheet cake). Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. Do not open oven.

ICING:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
5 oz. can evaporated milk
3/4 c. chocolate bits

Bring butter, sugar and evaporated milk to boil. Add chocolate bits and cook on low heat until melted. Spread on cake while hot.
