MOM'S BOILED SPICE CAKE WITH
CARAMEL FROSTING
 
2 sticks butter
2 c. water
2 c. sugar
2 c. raisins
2 tsp. ground cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda

In a large saucepan combine butter, water, sugar, raisins, cloves, cinnamon and salt and mix. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and cool. When cool add flour and baking soda. Mix.

Pour in a greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

CARAMEL FROSTING:

5 tbsp. heavy cream
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 c. powdered sugar
5 lg. marshmallows

In a saucepan bring cream and brown sugar to a boil. Remove from heat. Add powdered sugar and marshmallows. Stir until marshmallows are melted. Spread on cake.
