BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qt. sliced cucumbers
6 med. white onions, sliced
3 cloves garlic
1/3 c. pickling salt
5 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
3 c. cider vinegar (5% acidity)

Do not peel cucumbers. Slice thin. Add onions and whole garlic cloves. Add salt, cover with cracked ice. Mix thoroughly and let stand 3 hours, then drain thoroughly. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over cuke mixture. Heat to boiling and seal in sterilized jars. (about 8 pints)
