BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
5 qts. sliced cucumbers
6 med. onions, sliced
2 green sweet peppers, chopped
1/3 c. coarse med. salt
3 c. cider vinegar
3 cloves garlic
5 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seeds
2 tbsp. mustard seeds

Do not peel cucumbers. Slice thin. Add onions, peppers, and whole garlic cloves. Add salt; cover with cracked ice. Mix thoroughly. Let stand 3 hours. Drain well. Combine remaining ingredients; pour over cucumbers. Heat to a boil. Seal in jars. Makes 8 pints.
