SOUTH ST. LOUIS GOOEY BUTTER
CAKE
 
BOTTOM LAYER:

1 yellow cake mix (or lemon or chocolate)
1/2 c. melted butter
2 eggs

TOPPING:

8 oz. cream cheese, softened at room temp.
1 box powdered sugar
2 eggs, beaten

If using lemon cake mix, add 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract. If using chocolate cake mix, add 1 tablespoon powdered Hershey's chocolate.

Mix ingredients for bottom layer and pat into greased and floured 9"x13" pan or 2 (8"x8") pans. Mix and spread topping ingredients over bottom layer in pan. Sprinkle with additional powdered sugar. Bake 40 to 45 minutes at 350 degrees. (Top is golden brown and edges dark brown when done..)
