RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 oz. red food coloring
2 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/4 c. cake flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly. Add eggs, red food coloring and vanilla. Sift flour, cocoa and salt together. Then add to mixture alternately with the buttermilk, mix good then add soda and vinegar. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes in 9 inch cake pan. When layers are very cool, slice in half so as to have 4 layers.

FROSTING:

1 c. water
2 tbsp. cornstarch

Cook this first and set off to get cold.

Then: 1 tsp. vanilla 1 1/2 c. sugar or 10X can be used

Cream this real good and combine the cooked cornstarch, a spoon at a time, mixing real good until you have used up all of the starch, then keep mixing until this is real fluffy.
