1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 well beaten egg
1 tbsp. milk, if needed

Sift and measure flour, then sift flour with nutmeg, baking powder and salt. Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and milk; blend thoroughly. Combine with dry ingredients and chill. Dough should be stiff. Roll out to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutters and sprinkle with sugar. Extra special: Heart shapes with pink icing for Valentine's Day! Makes about 3 dozen.
