GERMAN CHOCOLATE SQUARES 
1 c. butter, divided in halves
1/4 c. sugar
1/3 c. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 (3 1/2 oz.) can coconut flakes
2 c. Nilla wafer crumbs
3 tbsp. milk
2 tbsp. vanilla flavored pudding mix
2 c. powdered sugar
1 (4 oz.) bar sweet chocolate
1 tbsp. butter
1 c. chopped walnuts

In double boiler, cook until blended the 1/2 cup butter, sugar, cocoa and vanilla. Add the egg and cook, stirring 5 minutes longer. Add the coconut flakes, mix well, then stir in the Nilla wafer crumbs. Press mixture into a buttered 9" square pan. Let stand 15 minutes. Cream remaining 1/2 cup butter until light, add in 3 tablespoons milk and the 2 tablespoons vanilla pudding mix. Beat in the 2 cups of powdered sugar. Spread over coconut layer. Let stand 15 minutes, or until firm. Melt the sweet chocolate with the 1 tablespoon butter. Cool. Spread over the second layer. Top with nuts. Cut into small squares to serve.
