MOM'S RED CABBAGE 
Coarsely shred a small head of red cabbage. Melt 2 tablespoons butter and add 1/2 onion cut fine and cook until yellow (1-3 minutes). Add 1/2 or more cut up apple to onion, also the cut up cabbage. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt. Pour boiling water (to cover) over all and cook about 30-40 minutes with cover. Do not drain but cook down until water is evaporated. Add about 2 tablespoons sugar, 1/3 cup vinegar and cook until blended. Then add 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds. About 1 tablespoon flour may be added with part of sugar, if you want it thickened.
