HOK & DOE 
2 lbs. potatoes
1 lg. onion
2 Oxo cubes (beef bouillon)
1 to 2 lb. braising steak
Salt and pepper

PASTRY:

8 oz. flour
4 oz. lard
Salt and pepper

Place braising steak in oven proof dish. Place sliced onions on top. Put peeled potatoes around edge. Add Oxo cubes crushed with 2 pints water and 2 ounces of old lard. Salt and pepper, then cover with aluminum foil. Cook for two hours in medium oven.
