RED DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
1 1/4 c. white sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs, unbeaten
1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking powder
1 3/4 c. cake flour or 2 c. pastry flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar and butter, then add ingredients as called for. After adding them all without stirring, beat vigorously until smooth. Bake in moderate (350 degree) oven, in layer cake pans, for 25 to 30 minutes, or until tests done. This is a favorite from a very, very old cookbook by Hershey Chocolate Corp.
