GUIN'S CRANBERRY MUFFINS 
1 c. raw chopped cranberries
1/2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. sugar
1 slightly beaten egg
3/4 c. sour milk or 1 c. buttermilk (1 tbsp. lemon juice will sour it)
1/4 c. melted shortening

Combine berries and 1/2 cup sugar. Sift flour, salt, soda, and remaining sugar. Mix egg, milk, and shortening, then add to dry ingredients. Stir milk into flour mixture until mixed. Add berries, mixing slightly. Fill greased muffin pan 2/3 full. Bake in 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. Makes 1 dozen.
