BLACK WALNUT POUND CAKE 
1/2 c. white sugar
1 c. shortening (Crisco)
1/2 c. butter
3 c. plain flour
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. brown sugar
5 eggs, separated
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. black walnuts, chopped
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix 1 tablespoon of the flour with the nuts. Cream Crisco and butter. Add white and brown sugars; cream again. Add egg yolks and flour that has been sifted with baking powder and salt. Add milk, walnuts and vanilla; beat well. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold in last. Bake in greased and floured pan 1 1/2 hours at 325 degrees. This makes a delicious black walnut cake. You must try it.
