MOTHER'S OATMEAL CAKE 
Cake:

1/2 c. Crisco
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 c. oatmeal
1 1/4 c. hot water

Soak oatmeal in hot water and then mix all ingredients as listed above, adding oatmeal last. Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes in a 9 x 13 x 2 1/4 inch pan.

Topping:

1 stick butter
1 small can coconut
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. nuts, chopped
1/4 c. milk

Mix together and spread on cake. Return to oven to brown topping.

Serves 20-24.
