OATMEAL CAKE AND FROSTING 
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. oatmeal
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon

FROSTING FOR OATMEAL CAKE:

1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. half and half
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. coconut

Mix boiling water and oatmeal. Let stand 20 minutes. Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, flour, soda, salt and cinnamon. Add oatmeal last. Bake at 325 degrees for 35-40 minutes.

Frosting: Mix together. Spread over top of cake and place under broiler until light brown.
