RED DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 sq. bitter chocolate
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. thick sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream shortening, add sugar and well beaten eggs. Sift together baking powder, salt and flour and add alternately with sour milk to other mixture. Pour the boiling water into the chocolate and mix quickly. Add soda to chocolate and cool and add to batter. Bake in layers.
