HOMEMADE BREAD 
4 c. lukewarm water
1 lg. cake yeast
1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
5 tsp. salt
12 c. flour

Put 4 cups lukewarm water in large bowl. Dissolve yeast. Add sugar, salt and shortening. Mix together. Add flour a little at a time. Knead until forms a ball. Punch down center, cover and let stand for 1 hour. Knead again and punch down center. Let raise 1 hour. Then divide into 4 balls, shape into loaves, put in greased loaf pans. Let raise 1 hour. Bake for 50 minutes or until brown. Remove from pans. Butter tops. Let cool.
