SOUTHERN CORN BREAD 
1 c. corn meal
1/2 c. flour
1 tbsp. melted shortening
1/2 tsp. each salt and soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 beaten egg

Heat shortening in cooking pan to melt. Sift dry ingredients and add egg and buttermilk. Mix well, then add hot shortening. Mix and pour into hot greased pan. Bake at 450 degrees for about 25 minutes.
