NAVAJO FRYBREAD | |
1/4 cup flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon powdered milk 1/2 cup warm water 1 1/2 cups oil (for frying) Mix flour, baking powder, salt and powdered milk together in a large bowl. Stir in warm water. Mix and knead with hands for 5 minutes until a soft dough forms. Let dough stand for 30 minutes. Divide dough into 10 pieces. Roll each piece in hands into a smooth ball. Pat dough ball into flat circle - 3/4 inch thick. Turn and pull dough until about 8 inches in diameter. Heat oil in skillet. Fry dough circles one at a time, dropping each circle carefully into the hot oil. The dough will brown quickly and puff up. Turn and brown the other side. Remove from skillet and drain on paper towels before serving. Makes 10 pieces. |
