NAVAJO FRY BREAD | |
3 c. flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 c. milk 1 c. warm water Lard or shortening Mix dry ingredients (can use 1/2 white and 1/2 whole wheat flour). Add milk, blending thoroughly. Add warm water in small amounts and knead until soft, but not sticky. Cover bowl and let dough stand for at least 15 minutes. Pull off egg size balls of dough and roll into rounds, 1/8-inch thick. Cut a hole in center to allow dough to puff. Fry the rounds in hot shortening until bubbles appear. Turn over and fry on other side until golden. Makes 7 to 8 rounds. |
