CHOW MEIN 
1 lb. beef (for Oriental dishes)
1 sm. can mushrooms
2 tbsp. soy sauce
1 c. beef consomme
1 1/2 c. sliced celery
1/2 c. chopped onion
1 c. sliced water chestnuts
1 c. bamboo shoots
1 lb. bean sprouts
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 c. water

Brown beef in a little butter. Add mushrooms, soy and consomme. Simmer 20 minutes. Add celery, onion, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots. Simmer 20 minutes more. Then add sprouts and cook a little longer. Add cornstarch mixed in water. Stir until thickened. Serve over rice. Can substitute chicken for beef. Serves 8.
