GOLDEN APPLE BARS 
2/3 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 c. chopped raw apple
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, vanilla and salt; beat well. Sift dry ingredients; add to shortening mixture and beat. Stir in apples and nuts. Bake in greased 9x13 pan 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees. Cut into bars when cool or serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
