STONE JAR PICKLES 
2 1/2 gal. cucumbers
4 c. coarse salt dissolved in lukewarm water

Put cucumbers in 2 gallons of water. Soak 7 days.

STEP 2:

Take cucumbers out, rinse and slice. Put cucumbers with 4 ounce alum in enough water to cover. Soak 2 nights.

STEP 3:

Drain. Put 2 tablespoons turmeric in 1 gallon vinegar. Should be white vinegar. Pour over cucumbers. Soak overnight.

STEP 4:

Take cucumbers out. Alternate one layer of sugar, 2 tablespoons of pickling spice. Use 10 pounds of sugar. When sugar begins to melt stir every so often. Do not heat or seal. Will keep indefinitely.
