4 slices top round steak, about 4 - 6 oz. each Salt and pepper 4 strips bacon 1 lg. onion 2 tbsp. pickle, dill or sweet, chopped 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce 1 tsp. meat glaze OR 2 pkg. brown gravy mix Pound the meat to flatten and season it with the salt and pepper. Broil the bacon and conserve the fat. Brown the onion in the fat. Crumble the crisp bacon and mix with the browned, drained onions and pickle. Place a spoonful of the mixture in the center of each slice of meat. Roll the beef and tie the ends. Brown the rolls in bacon fat. Add the tomato sauce and meat glaze or gravy mix. Season to taste. Simmer until tender. Serve hot. You can use gravy to simmer the meat in instead of tomato sauce and meat glaze. |
