APPLE PUDDING 
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening (if using oil, use slightly less)
1 c. flour
1 egg, beaten
2 c. chopped apples
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. nut meats
1/3 c. dates

Mix dry ingredients and add shortening, then add egg, then add fruit and nuts. Bake in 8 or 9-inch square pan in moderate oven.
