LEBKUCHEN (German Cookies) 
3 lbs. sugar (6 c.)
3/4 lb. shortening
3 eggs
2 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 pts. cider
3 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 lb. ground almonds
1 pt. honey with 3 1/2 tsp. baking soda (beat until white)

Add flour enough for soft dough. Let stand overnight, then roll and cut. Bake at 325 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes about 250 cookies. Cut out with oblong cutter or a cocoa can.
