SHOWROOM BEANS 
1 c. sugar
7/8 c. vinegar
1/2 c. salad oil
1/2 tbsp. salt
1/2 tbsp. pepper
3 to 4 cans (16 oz. each) green beans, drained
1 can (5 oz.) water chestnuts, sliced
1 salad onion, sliced (purple looks attractive)
1 pkg. (4 oz.) blue cheese, crumbled

Combine sugar, vinegar, salad oil, salt and pepper in a saucepan. Bring to a boil; pour over beans, water chestnuts and onion. Mix in blue cheese. Chill. Like women this gets better with age. Serves 12.
