OLD FASHIONED PICKLES 
Cucumbers
1 tsp. pickling spice
1 tbsp. pickling salt
1 clove garlic
1/4 c. vinegar
Pinch of alum
Dill

Put dill in bottom of jar, then pack with cucumbers. Add all other ingredients, top with more dill, fill jar with cold well water. Screw new lid and ring tight. Will seal itself as it works. Can be eaten in a week or two. Makes 1 quart.
