EASY BATTER BREAD 
1 pkg. dry yeast
1/2 c. warm water
3 tbsp. sugar
1 lg. can evaporated milk
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. melted shortening
4 1/2 c. white or whole wheat flour (USe 2 pkg. yeast for whole wheat)

Add yeast to water to dissolve. Stir in 1 tablespoon sugar. Let stand in warm place until bubbly (about 15 minutes). Stir in the rest of sugar, milk, salt and shortening. Beat in flour 1 cup at a time, mixing well. Grease well three (13 or 16 ounce) coffee cans. Divide dough into the 3 cans. Let rise in warm place until dough is to top of cans. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Cool in cans for 10 minutes, then remove.

Makes 3 loaves.
