BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
1 gallon sliced cucumbers
8 sm. onions
2 green peppers
1/2 c. salt
Crushed ice
5 c. sugar
5 c. vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed

Slice cucumbers and onions; shred peppers. Mix salt with vegetables and cover with crushed ice. Let stand 3 hours. Drain and rinse. Bring vinegar, sugar and spices to a boil. Add vegetables and let them get scalding hot. Pack in sterilized jars and seal. Process 2-3 minutes in hot water bath.
