RICH CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2 c. sugar
3/4 c. butter
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water
4 tbsp. cocoa
3 1/2 c. flour
Dash of salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar; separate eggs. Beat yolks and add to sugar. Put soda in milk and beat, add to mixture. Pour boiling water over cocoa, dissolve well and add to mixture. Add flour, salt and vanilla. Mix well. Beat egg whites and fold into batter. Mix well. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

CARAMEL ICING:

2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
1 sm. can evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar. Add milk, boil about 6 minutes or until soft ball forms when dropped in cold water. Add vanilla and beat until cool.
