RICH CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 c. lard (use pure lard)
2 c. white sugar
2 whole eggs (slightly beaten)
2 1/2 c. plain flour
2/3 c. cocoa
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. boiling water
Caramel or Chocolate Frosting

Sift together flour, cocoa, salt and soda. Cream lard and sugar, add eggs. Mix dry mixture with buttermilk alternating, adding flour mixture first and last. Add vanilla, then boiling water. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.
