DATE NUT BREAD 
2 c. whole wheat pastry flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 - 1 1/2 c. chopped dates
2/3 - 1 c. chopped or broken walnuts
1 egg, beaten
1/4 c. safflower oil
1/3 c. honey
Grated peel of 1 orange
2/3 c. water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix flour, baking powder and salt; add dates and separate any pieces that have stuck together; add walnuts and mix. Mix egg, oil, honey, orange peel and water (an egg beater or electric mixer is helpful). Add wet mixture to dry and mix well, then place batter in a lightly oiled standard size (4 1/2" x 8 1/2") bread pan. Make a slash lengthwise down the middle with a wet spatula, then bake at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes or until a fork inserted in the center comes out dry.
