MAMA'S NUT AND RAISIN CAKE 
3/4 pkg. raisins, chopped
1 c. nuts, chopped
2 eggs
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. hot water
Maple flavoring
Pinch of salt
2 c. flour or enough to make medium batter

Beat or mix sugar and butter together; add eggs, then soda in hot water. Add the salt to the flour and continue to beat. Add raisins and nuts (stir them in by hand). Then add maple flavoring.

Put batter into two round 9-inch cake pans (test the first with small amount of cake). "If it is not good - add more flour." Bake at 350 degrees.

FROSTING:

3/4 c. cream
3/4 c. light brown sugar
3/4 c. white sugar

Boil until a drop becomes a soft ball in a cup of cold water. Beat it a little until it loses gloss and becomes right on first and second layers.
