WHIRL COOKIES | |
1 c. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 1/2 c. butter 1 egg 1 tbsp. vanilla 3 c. sifted flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1-2 tbsp. warm water 2 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted Cream shortening, butter and sugar, add egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients, mix well. Sprinkle water over dough and form into a large ball. Divide dough in half, add chocolate to one half. Roll out each half between two pieces of waxed paper to form a 4x6 inch rectangle. Remove top sheets of waxed paper and place the light dough on top of the chocolate dough. Place a sheet of waxed paper over the top of the two doughs. Roll out the combined doughs to 1/4 inch thick. Roll up like a jelly roll starting with the long side. Wrap with waxed paper and chill. Slice about 1/8 inch thick and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake in a 400 degree oven 8-10 minutes. |
