2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. butter
3 c. sifted plain flour
1 c. buttermilk

Cream sugar and butter until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Add flour, soda and buttermilk alternately mixing well after each addition. Then add vanilla. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour in tube pan. In 3 (8 inch) or 3 (9 inch) pans for 30 to 35 minutes.
