MARTHA'S FAVORITE GRANMA ZEYEN
COOKIES
 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 beaten egg
1/4 c. light molasses
2 1/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 c. granulated sugar

Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses. Beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients; mix well. Chill thoroughly. Shape into balls size of a walnut and dip in sugar (one side only). Place sugared side up on ungreased cookie sheet, 2" to 3" apart. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Makes 3 dozen.
