CARAMEL APPLE BARS 
1 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/4 c. Crisco
1 3/4 c. flour
1 1/2 c. oatmeal
1/2 tsp. baking soda
4 1/2 c. coarsely chopped tart apples
3 tbsp. flour
1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels, melted

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix first 3 ingredients; add flour, oatmeal and soda. Remove 2 cups, save for top. Press rest in buttered 9"x13" pan. Mix apples with 3 tablespoons flour. Put on top of crust. Put melted caramels on top of apples. Then top with the 2 cups reserved crust. Bake 25 to 30 minutes. Cut while warm.
