APPLE CRISP 
4 c. sliced pared tart apples
2/3-3/4 c. brown sugar (packed)
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. oats
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 c. butter, softened

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease square pan, 8 x 8 x 2 inches. Place apple slices in pan. Mix remaining ingredients thoroughly. Sprinkle over apples. Bake 30 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is golden brown. Serve warm and if desired with light cream or ice cream. Serves 6.

Variation: Cherry Crisp - substitute 1 can cherry pie filling for the apples; use lesser amount of sugar.
