VERY SPECIAL CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
2 well beaten eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. butter or shortening
1 3/4 c. flour
Pinch of salt
2 sq. chocolate, melted

Sift flour, soda and salt together 3 times. Cream sugar and shortening together very well. Add well beaten eggs. Add sifted flour, soda and salt, alternately with milk. Add melted chocolate and vanilla. Whip well. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes in 9 x 13 inch pan.

CHOCOLATE FROSTING:

2 1/2 c. powdered sugar
About 1/3 c. milk or half & half
2 sq. baking chocolate, melted
1/4 c. melted butter
1 tsp. vanilla
Nuts (left quite large)

Spread on above cake when cool.
