GREEK EASTER BREAD | |
3 pkg. powdered yeast 1/2 c. water 8 c. sifted flour 1 c. sugar 1 c. shortening 6 eggs 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. masthia 1 tsp. powdered mahleb 1 1/2 c. milk 2 tbsp. vegetable oil Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Set aside. Place flour, sugar and shortening in large bowl. Roll by hand to feel like cornbread. Add 5 beaten eggs and other remaining ingredients. Knead well. Place in pan, cover and let stand in warm place until size doubles. Knead again (very lightly) and let rise. Divide into 3 loaves. Place each loaf into a pan. Brush with remaining beaten egg. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. |
