MEAT LOAF DELUXE | |
1 1/2 lb. ground beef chuck 1 c. milk 2 slices 2 to 3 day old bread 1 beaten egg 2 beef bouillon cubes 1 c. hot water 2 stalks celery, chopped 1/4 green pepper, chopped 1/2 red pimiento, chopped 2 tbsp. butter 5 tbsp. sharp grated cheese 1 tsp. sugar 1/8 tsp. paprika Pinch of garlic salt Corn flakes or potato chips, crumbled for top In a large mixing bowl, crumble bread, add milk, beaten egg, beef cubes dissolved in hot water. Add ground meat. Mix gently. Saute celery, onion, and green pepper in butter, add to meat mixture. Add pimiento, 2 tablespoons cheese, sugar and seasonings. Mix lightly with hands. Place in a greased casserole or loaf pan, adding enough cold water to come just to the top of the loaf. Top with 3 tablespoons cheese and corn flakes or chips. Bake in 350 degree oven about 2 hours or until loaf is done and crusty brown on top. NOTE: The less meat is mixed the more tender it is. |
