APPLE KUCHEN 
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. scalded milk
4 tbsp. butter, dissolved in milk (then cool)
1 c. water (warm)
1 pkg. yeast, dissolved in lukewarm water
1 generous sprinkling of nutmeg
1/4 tsp (3 pods) cardamom
1 generous tsp. salt

Mix the listed ingredients and add enough flour - (approximately 2 1/2) for a soft dough. Let rise 1 hour. Add approximately 3 scant cups flour and knead. Let rise to double bulk, about 1 hour (sticky dough). Mold as desired, and let rise again to double bulk, about 1 hour.

For the average bread pan, melt 1/4 cup butter in the pan and sprinkle it with 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed. If desired, sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg and place kneaded dough on apples (sliced) and arrange on the butter-sugar mixture. Punch the dough down on the slices. Bake 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees.
