2 c. sugar
2 c. water
2 c. raisins
1/2 c. shortening (stick)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt

Place all ingredients in pan and bring to full boil. Cool. Then add 3 cups flour and 2 teaspoons soda. Bake in slow oven about 35 to 40 minutes in 9 x 13 inch pan.
