1 c. dates, chopped
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water
1 tbsp. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 to 1 c. nutmeats, chopped

Combine dates, soda, and boiling water and let stand 1 hour. Cream butter. Add and blend sugar, eggs, flour, and vanilla. Stir in date mixture and 1/2 to 1 cup nutmeats. Spread 3/4 inches thick in greased pan and bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes. 8 or 9 inch pan.
