MISSISSIPPI MUD BARS 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 whole egg
2 eggs, separated
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. nuts, chopped
1/2 c. chocolate chips
1 c. miniature marshmallows
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Using an electric mixer, cream shortening and sugar. Add whole egg and 2 egg yolks, blend well. Reserve egg whites.

In a separate bowl, sift flour, salt, baking powder together. Add to creamed mixture. Blend thoroughly. Spread batter in greased 9x12 inch pan. Sprinkle nuts, chocolate pieces and marshmallows over batter.

In a separate bowl, beat reserved egg whites until stiff. Fold in brown sugar. Spread over batter. Bake 30-40 minutes or until inserted knife comes out clean.
