3/4 lb. ground beef
1 med. onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tbsp. butter
3/4 tbsp. salt
1/8 tbsp. pepper
2 tsp. chili powder
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
6 corn tortillas, buttered
1 c. shredded American cheese
1/2 c. water
Slices of jalapeno (opt.)

Brown meat with onion and garlic in butter. Add salt, pepper, chili powder and tomato sauce. In a 2 quart casserole, alternate layers of tortillas, meat sauce and cheese. You may sprinkle more cheese on top. Pour water at edge of casserole into bottom. Cover and bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes. Allow to stand for 5 minutes before serving.
